The Bureau of Customs has seized P10 billion worth of counterfeit goods, including bags and shoes, carrying labels of popular brands during a raid in a storage facility in Manila. /PDI
Intelligence and Investigation Service-Manila International Container Port led the operation in response to an information that the warehouse, located in Binondo, had been a repository of items that infringe on the Intellectual Property Rights of certain product labels. Armed with a letter of authority issued by Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio, lawmen swooped down on the storage facility on Feb.
28 and found imported assorted clothing apparel, shoes, general merchandise, kitchen ware, electronics and beauty products. The warehouse was temporarily padlocked and sealed after the fake items were discovered, the bureau said, adding that inventory of the seized goods was ongoing. According to Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence Group Juvymax Uy, the owners of the goods will be required to present importation documents or proof of payment by Customs authorities. —TINA G.
