The Bureau of Customs (BoC) has arrested a foreigner carrying an undeclared $167,300 upon arrival in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City.

In a statement on Wednesday, the bureau said the foreigner, identified as a Korean, was arrested last March 17, 2023. The identity of the passenger was withheld.Initial investigation showed that a physical examination of the passenger's baggage at NAIA Terminal 1 yielded $167,300 or equivalent to P9.196 million hidden in a book.The Korean passenger arrived at the NAIA Terminal 1 from Incheon International Airport via Asiana Airlines Flight number OZ701.

A Warrant of Seizure and Detention for violation of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas regulations on Cross Border Transfer of Currencies and Section 1113 of the Republic Act 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act was issued against the passenger.The Korean was placed under the custody of the Customs Police – NAIA for further investigation and possible filing of a criminal case.
