The University of Alaska system has a new official president to oversee operations at its three campuses.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The University of Alaska system has a new official president to oversee operations at its three campuses.
At a meeting of the UA Board of Regents last Friday, the board voted unanimously to appoint Pat Pitney as the 17th president of the university system. Pitney has served as Interim President since July 2020, following the resignation of five-year president Jim Johnsen. Karen Perdue, Vice-Chair of the UA Board of Regents, said of Pitney, “She, for one thing, has had decades of experience inside the university at all levels, so she’s worked at the campus level and at the system level, which is really important in our system, to know those ins and outs, and of course at the highest levels of state government.”
Sheri Buretta, Board Chairman, echoed Perdue’s sentiment, saying, “Pat is really open to doing what’s best for the university, and so it’s so refreshing to have her willing to take this on.”Copyright 2022 KTVF. All rights reserved.
