Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah has secured a resounding victory in the Mahkota state by-election, defeating Perikatan Nasional's Mohamad Haizan Jaafar with a significant majority.
KLUANG, 28 Sept -- Calon Barisan Nasional Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah menunjukkan jari yang sudah didakwat selepas selesai mengundi pada Pilihan Raya Kecil Dewan Undangan Negeri Mahkota di Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Perdana hari ini. Beliau ditentang calon Perikatan Nasional Mohamad Haizan Jaafar. PRK itu diadakan susulan kematian penyandangnya Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, pada 2 Ogos.
Barisan candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah clinched the victory with a total of 27,941 votes compared to Perikatan’s Mohamad Haizan Jaafar who received 7,332 votes.Umno Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said this gives Syed Hussien a majority of 20,609 votes. “Thank you to the Chinese voters as well for giving us their strong support, as we won big in the Dorset district polling centre where Barisan received 3,159 votes against Perikatan’s 1,040.
