The most powerful inline-six BMW has ever made appears to be a lot more potent than we've been told
M makes on the dyno. The noise is something to revel in but what’s more shocking is that the M4 CSL appears to make almost 10 percent more power than the official numbers.
The CSL’s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged S58 inline-six made a very impressive 596 horsepower and 530 pound-feet of torque on the dyno. By comparison, BMW claims 543 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. We knew that the M4 CSL was going to be an absolute rocket ship from the moment BMW released detailed specs on it. It tips the scales at just 3,583 pounds which is more than a hundred pounds lighter than the already fast M4 Competition.peak torque is available from 2,750 to 5,950 rpm
. The car in this video actually maintains peak torque, which is about 51 lb-ft more than it should be, across that whole span. Tuners will tell you that the space under the power band is far more important than peak power. It looks like the M4 CSL is strong on both counts.According to BMW, the M4 CSL should make its peak horsepower at 6,250 rpm. Again, that figure seems to be dead on aside from the fact that this car is developing 53 extra horsepower at that engine speed.
Firstly, horsepower and torque figures can vary from run to run on a dynamometer. We don’t know which run this was or how many were completed nor do we know what the average power across all runs was. Also,In addition, we don’t yet know if this is an anomaly or what the vast majority of M4 CSLs will make on a dyno. Only more testing can corroborate these results. So get to it M4 CSL owners. We need to know… for science.
