In celebration of the 20th anniversary of its regional operations, BMW Group has expanded its Regional Parts Distribution Centre in Tanjung Pelepas, increasing the facility's size to 65,000 square metres. The centre manages more than 100,000 lines of inventory monthly, with a 90% service level to over 20 markets. It holds 52,000 part numbers, including over 30% high-voltage batteries, and boasts a 99% on-time picking and packing rate.
This was held in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the regional parts operation that began in Tanjung Pelepas in 2004, and now the expanded facility covers a total of 65,000 square metres, up from the original 45,000 square-metre area.
According to BMW Group Malaysia, the facility maintains an on-time picking and packing rate of over 99%, and a rate of 99.5% on items delivered in excellent condition. The recent expansion exercise brought notable improvements which included a purpose-built high-voltage battery storage area, in addition to a modern very narrow aisle racking system. Further expansion is provided for within the facility’s two-storey layout, and the integration of solar panels supports the BMW Group’s sustainability initiatives, says the company.
