BANGKOK: A Polish woman was detained at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday (Sept 26) after she allegedly made a bomb threat during a Thai Vietjet flight from Vietnam's central city of Danang, bound for Bangkok, according to local media.
KUALA LUMPUR: BMI Country Risk & Industry Research , a unit of Fitch Solutions, has revised its end-2024 forecast for the ringgit to RM4.00 per US dollar from RM4.55 previously, reflecting the currency’s robust performance in the third quarter 2024.
Over a short-term six-month outlook, BMI said the ringgit reversed its broad weakening trend since the start of 2024 to gain 12.1 per cent in 3Q 2024, positioning it to be the best-performing emerging market currency in the region. "We see scope for the ringgit to touch the next resistance level at the RM4.00/USD by end-2024, although the relative strength index, which appears heavily oversold as things stand, could point to a short-term depreciation.Meanwhile, it also expects interest rate differentials between the US and Malaysia to narrow in favour of the ringgit.
"This implies that narrowing yield differentials will be supportive of the ringgit particularly if we are right in expecting the Bank Negara Malaysia to leave its OPR on hold at 3.00 per cent through end-2024," it said.
