State of Origin: Michael Maguire is reportedly set to take over as New South Wales coach, following the resignation of Brad Fittler.
The NSWRL board will reportedly allow Michael Maguire to retain his role as head coach of New Zealand whilst also taking over from Brad Fittler in 2024.
According to The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio, Maguire won’t be officially announced as NSW coach until after this year’s Pacific Championships. However, Riccio also explained that Maguire will likely have to give up one of his commitments and it looks likely he will depart the nation’s capital.“It’s going to be up to the Canberra board to determine if they want Madge jumping out of NRL land and into Origin land halfway through a season,” Riccio added. The scheduling of New Zealand fixtures and Origin games is reportedly also a factor in the NSWRL board’s decision.
