Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has seldom faced attacks from his rivals in the nine Democratic presidential debates to date.
Aides to Mr. Sanders said they expect the senator to have a bigger target on his back following his strong finish in the Iowa caucuses and subsequent victories in New Hampshire and Nevada. Mr. Sanders has also risen in early state and national polls, raising fresh concerns from the still-crowded Democratic field that he could soon be unstoppable.
The backlash came after Mr. Sanders told CBS’s “60 Minutes” that it was “unfair to simply say everything is bad” about Mr. Castro’s legacy and pointed to Cuba’s “massive literacy program” under his watch. Elsewhere, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Mr. Sanders "has been weak on gun safety his entire career."
