Motorsport: Supercars driver James Courtney reflects on his early career that nearly saw him race in Formula 1.

Broc Feeney has reclaimed the Repco Supercars Championship lead after holding off Red Bull Ampol Racing teammate Will Brown in a dramatic first race at the Australian Grand Prix.

Heading into Friday, Feeney leads Brown by a slender two points, with Chaz Mostert just 32 points down in third. “I just love racing here. It’s such a cool place and it’s been a hectic day, a pole, a win and a fastest lap. It’s pretty bloody good. At an average age of 22 years, 11 months and two days, Feeney, Brown and Payne combined to create the youngest ever Supercars podium.

After drivers completed an extra formation lap, De Pasquale got the jump on Feeney, but bowled a wide at Turn 3 and handed the lead straight back. Todd Hazelwood was also given a five-second penalty over a clash with Bryce Fullwood at Turn 3, with Mostert — who dropped to 10th after the Percat contact — jumping to eighth.
