A couple of awful doses of misfortune brought Crawley and Root undone, before Harry Brook and Ben Stokes cautiously navigated England to 4-384, and a lead of 67, at stumps.
Crawley was in lethal touch, striking 21 fours and three sixes and proving particularly effective with his drives. Zak Crawley hammered 189 runs from just 182 balls as England pulverised Australia on day two of the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford. When Crawley's innings was brought to a close, the Old Trafford crowd rose to its feet as a host of Australians, including Alex Carey, Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith, scurried up to him to offer their congratulations.
