The reports that Marvel’s Blade movie set for 2024 has cut Kit Harrington’s Black Knight avoids a massive MCU issue and benefits the film itself.
Recent reports indicate that Marvel's upcoming Blade film has cut Kit Harrington's Black Knight, which would avoid a glaring MCU problem if proven true. A Blade film was officially announced as part of the MCU as early as 2019, with highly-acclaimed actor Mahershala Ali playing the titular role. Since then, the film has undergone a tumultuous production, with multiple rewrites, director changes, and even a release date alteration taking place.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Despite the film's turbulent production, the most recent script rewrite from Michael Starrbury and new director Yann Demange means filming for Blade is scheduled to begin in May 2023. Thus far, Blade has only made one voice cameo in the MCU as part of Eternals' post-credits scene, with Black Knight reportedly part of the Blade solo film as a result.
A Blade & Black Knight Team-Up Should Still Be Part Of The MCU’s Future That being said, a Blade and Black Knight team-up should still be a story that is told in the MCU at some point. The supernatural elements of both characters certainly make it so that a team-up would work well. Similarly, other rumors surrounding Blade's final script indicate the film could be a prequel, set in the 1920s.
This would still leave the door open for a Blade-Black Knight team-up in the future. If Black Knight was left for a Blade sequel, both characters could receive further development so that their eventual coming together holds more weight. Blade can be used to flesh out Eric Brooks, while Black Knight can be featured in other MCU projects from Eternals 2 to other supernatural stories.
