BlackAdam star Noah Centineo opens up about James Gunn's new DCU plans amid the now-infamous changes. '...those guys, they know what they’re doing.'
Noah Centineo, star of 2022's Black Adam, opens up about James Gunn's new DC Universe plans. Centineo portrayed Atom Smasher, a member of the Justice Society of America, in Black Adam, starring alongside Dwayne Johnson's titular character. Black Adam earned plenty of buzz as it brought Henry Cavill back as Superman in a surprise cameo, leading many to believe that a foundation was being set for more Superman appearances from Cavill.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY A week after Black Adam's theatrical debut, James Gunn was hired along with Peter Safran to serve as the co-CEO and co-chair of DC Studios. The change in leadership has led to plenty of speculation from viewers about possible changes in the DCU line-up, which only increased after Gunn revealed that Cavill would not return as Superman despite his role in Black Adam.
I honestly can’t even speak to any of that. I don’t really know what their plan is, and I’m psyched to see what they do with the DC world. For me, I’m just really excited to see Peter Safran and James Gunn‘s vision for DC, those guys, they know what they’re doing. So, we’ll give it to him. I’m excited.
With Gunn and Johnson maintaining a supportive and positive relationship, it's possible that Johnson's Black Adam could return in some capacity despite the changes to the DCU. If Gunn opts to reboot the DCU, Johnson's previous tease about exploring the character in "future DC multiverse chapters" is an intriguing indication that Black Adam may not be discarded entirely as new characters are brought into the fold.
What We Know About New DC Plans Gunn has been clear in his recent comments and interactions with DC fans that he and Safran's plans for DC have been developed but remain tightly under wraps, giving little credit to the many rumors circulating about their recent decisions. However, the filmmaker did confirm that there will be a new Superman movie with a younger actor that is not an origin story, as well as an unannounced new DC television show and a new DC slate.
