THE Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, CISLAC, Friday, has called on the President of the Senate, Senator God’swill Akpabio, to stop alleged exclusion of public hearing and debates in the passage of bills on the floor of the Senate.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Executive Director, CISLAC, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, while urging the leadership of the National Assembly to prioritize transparency, openness, legislative participation, and fairness in conducting their legislative activities and advancing their agenda.
Rafsanjani said: “While expediting the legislative process is essential, it’s equally important to ensure meaningful input from legislators and Nigerians. A bill passed without sufficient involvement of the people can result in a significant deficit for Nigerians. “The relationship between the legislature and the executive should not merely be a rubber stamp. The legislature should play a critical role and scrutinize every legal framework presented to them.
