Foot traffic is usually what keeps a business thriving, but at Pandora Avenue and Quadra Street in downtown Victoria that's not the case.
The 7-Eleven store at the corner of Johnson and Douglas is one of the two major chains shutting its doors in downtown Victoria.
“You have the homeless situation, you have people using drugs and whatnot right in the vicinity,” says Mark Hardoon of Canmed Investments. “I think that just became overwhelming.” O’Brien says the business built its own garbage enclosure in the parking lot to prevent people from sorting through the trash and leaving it strewn in the parking lot, and most customers are opting for takeout over dine-in.Subway isn’t the only mega chain to leave downtown Victoria. The 7-Eleven store at the corner of Johnson and Douglas streets has also closed. Management declined comment, but the company reportedly has plans to close hundreds of stores in North America.
Back at 1420 Quadra, the opportunity exists for a business to move into a 2000 square foot second floor space. A tech company had been renting it, but moved last year due to safety issues.
