President Joe Biden will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in California next month, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed Tuesday, as the Biden Administration attempts to ease tensions with a major geopolitical foe.President Xi Jinping in Brasília, Brazil, Nov. 13, 2019. The two leaders plan to meet during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in San Francisco.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters during a news briefing that Biden will have “a tough conversation” with Xi, but did not elaborate on further details of what they will talk about.This meeting comes as the White House has tried to ease tensions between the U.S. and China, its biggest adversary on the world stage. The Biden Administraton has sent multiple high level officials to China including Secretary of State, who traveled to the country in July.
