The Japanese-born/New York City-based singer-songwriter began releasing albums in 2012 but she really came into her own in 2017 with the “Puberty 2” in 2016, “Be the Cowboy” in 2018 and this year’s “Laurel Hell.” Her hooky, idiosyncratic and highly personal pop earned her The Guardian’s designation as the best young songwriter in the U.S. earlier this year.
