Sheriff Javier Salazar speaks during a news conference at Calaveras Lake about the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office new patrol boat Friday.Just in time for the July Fourth weekend, county officials showed off new rescue-patrol boats and equipment to respond to water-related emergencies on local lakes, rivers and creeks.
Salazar emphasized no public funds were involved because the boat was donated, and the Bexar County Sheriff’s Foundation is paying for the associated maintenance, fuel, training and other costs. “From a first responder’s perspective, we don’t want to be sitting here on the shore helpless while somebody’s sinking,” he said.ESD 10 also last week received a Zodiac boat that can be deployed in flooding events.
