Coach Doug Pederson liked the flash from the offense Sunday, but protection and costly penalties will have to be cleaned up before the Jaguars' next game.
He also got the offense in position for two Riley Patterson field goals and the Jags led 22-14 early in the fourth period.
In between, Patterson atoned for bouncing a field-goal attempt off the upright on the final play of the first half by connecting from 43 and 45 yards out. The Commanders scored again to take the lead but Lawrence threw an 8-yard pass to Marvin Jones and Evan Engram drew a pass interference penalty against Bobby McCain, giving the Jags a first down at their own 45 with 1:30 left.
“You love the aggressiveness in trying to make a play,” he said. “But he still needs to understand the situation. We can coach him better, keep walking him through those things, not just him but as a team in general.”
