However, the electoral reform group urges EC to be stricter on election day.
The Sabah chapter of the group recorded a total of 19 election offences in the Sandakan polls which concluded on May 11, compared to 36 offences recorded in theOf the 19 recorded election offences, there were two offences relating to treating, misuse of government assets and spreading ill-will respectively, it said in a statement today.There was also one recorded incident of government exercising undue influence and four other offences.
"There were several improvements including voting facilities, such as better ramps for the wheel-chair bound voters and the use of a buggy car for old folks and the disabled," it said. Of the total offences, 11 of the offences were committed by Pakatan Harapan, three by PBS and five by independent candidates or other parties.
The Sandakan by-election saw a contest between DAP's Vivian Wong, PBS' Linda Tsen and independent candidates Hamzah Abdullah, Chia Siew Yung and Sulaiman Abdul Samat.Related Reports
