Also, Berkeley High School was opening a new swimming pool that was 75-by-30 feet and 8 feet deep in fall 1923, and students had raised money for its construction. Diving boards and a pool deck were still needed.A U.S. mail plane lost power on Oct. 25, 1923, and had to make a forced “perfect landing on vacant lots at Seventh and Harrison Streets in west Berkeley.”
His father would be San Francisco’s longest serving mayor — with a 19-year tenure between 1911 and 1931, when he successfully ran for California governor.
