Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has constituted a five-member Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the recent disturbances in Ukum. The panel will be chaired by Justice Samson Itodo, a retired judge. Other members of the panel include Mr Felix Iber, SP.
Timothy Atondo Ayakpam, Mr Enyikwola Ejembi as Lead Counsel, and Mrs Ngufan Ahenjir as Secretary. This was contained in a statement on Monday by the Benue State Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Barr. Fidelis Mnyim. Alia expressed confidence in the panel's ability to fulfill its mandate. The Ukum disturbances have raised significant concern, with reports of escalating violence and community unrest.
The establishment of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry is part of the government’s commitment to addressing the root causes of the conflict, the governor said. The panel is expected to commence its proceedings promptly, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and conducting thorough investigations to uncover the facts surrounding the disturbances.
