Pearland 11s fall 4-2 to Bellaire in Section 3 title contest
Braxton Martinez applies the pin he just received during postgame ceremonies to his ballcap Saturday night.Where do strong hitting, slick fielding and stingy pitchers from a Little League all-star team go during the dog days of summer?
With little kids wearing Bellaire T-shirts straddling the chain-link fence, ready for the celebration to get under way, York didn’t let Bellaire’s pint-size fans wait on top of the fence for long. He retired Pearland in order in the sixth, allowing the defending state champions as 10-year-olds to move one step closer to a second straight title.
Maxim Quintanilla, the leadoff batter, was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while two-hole hitter Charlie Dabney was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. In the three hole, Jacob Braun drove in two RBIs with the assistance of the game’s only extra base hit, a double in the third that raised the advantage to 3-0.
Pearland’s bats were stronger Saturday night than they were Friday night when the team struck out nine times against Santa Fe pitching. The boys, trying to win their third straight elimination game since losing their opening contest, trimmed that strikeout total down to five.
