Bella Hadid's “Mrs. Robinson” bob is a NYFW mic drop:
inside the Park Avenue Armory, the supermodel hit the runway with a trompe l'oeil style that took her latest crop to shorter lengths and greater heights.
Ahead of the show, the idea for Hadid's transformation began when she slipped into her black sequin column gown and white opera gloves during fittings. "Because of the gown, Marc asked, ‘Wouldn't she look good with a ’do?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, why not?’" explained Guido Palau, who then proceeded to source a wig in Hadid's natural brunette color, cut it, and set it in rollers. "I wanted it a bit shorter than her current cut, and with some real volume," he explained.
. "It's very from-another-era," said Palau, likening the look to the signature style of actress Anne Bancroft, who famously played Mrs. Robinson in 1967's. "When you have that hair that’s very stylized and kind of coiffed, it doesn’t feel like the texture of today." Watching Hadid, a veritable downtown girl, shapeshift into an "uptown" character that stood out from a decidedly more come-as-you-are bunch was a lesson in attitude. "To me, it’s edgy—even more edgy," grinned Palau. "Because you just don’t see this kind of look as much anymore."
