Bella Hadid and Maude Apatow’s go-to hair colorist opens a new SoHo salon

On an icy-cold afternoon in early February, Apatow is back in Perry’s chair in the East Village waiting for a few cinnamon highlights to set. “Jenna is always ahead of the trends,” Apatow says over the low hum of SZA’s “Good Days.
Apatow admits to a color codependency that has had her seek out Perry, who she discovered on Instagram, “sometimes like 40 times in two months.” But this appointment will be their last at the cozy space Perry opened right before the pandemic. This month, the 35-year-old will move on up, or, rather, south and west, to a “big sister” SoHo flagship on a cobblestoned corner at 347 West Broadway between Grand and Broome Streets.
“I wasn’t expecting to go from four employees to 17 in two years,” admits Perry, who credits a lot of her kinship with her younger clients—who change their hair as much as their makeup—to the fact that they want exactly what she did when she was an “early 2000s scene kid.
