Melissa Etheridge says that her son Beckett Cypher, 21, has died. “Today I joined the hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction,” the singer-songwriter said in a statement.

Etheridge's 21-year-old son Beckett Cypher, whom she had with former partner Julie Cypher, has died. The death was announced Wednesday on the singer-songwriter's Twitter account. No cause of death or other details were given.
“Today I joined the hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction,” the statement said. “My son Beckett, who was just 21, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today.”Hours earlier, Etheridge’s Twitter account had announced the death of Cypher, one of two children the 58-year-old singer had with former partner Julie Cypher, conceived with sperm from Rock & Roll Hall of Famer David Crosby.
