ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A U.S. Army soldier was killed Tuesday when he was attacked by a wild bear during a training exercise at a camp near Anchorage.
A news release from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson says the soldier was part of a small group west of the Regional Anchorage Landfill when the attack occurred. The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of family. The base released no other details on the attack. The area where the attack occurred has been closed off as Alaska wildlife troopers search for the bear, the base says.
