The tournament resumes Monday night when Bayside and League City hit the road for a trip to Texas City, eyeing the chance to stay alive one more night

From L-R, Bayside Area Little League's home run hitters from Saturday night feature Jaxon Humphreys, Ty Abad and Henry Stephens. With their muscle, Bayside eliminated the defending district champions, guaranteeing a new champ will be crowned this week.Much to the joy of all the Little League organizations on the east side of the Gulf Freeway, the vacancy sign has been posted at the District 14 Little League championship headquarters.

The twin wins began Bayside and League City's efforts to travel the long road back to a possible appearance in the championship game next weekend. The field of eight District 14 clubs is now down to six. The two return to action Monday night at 7 with a trek to Texas City Little League's ballfields. By that time, League City had scored single runs in the third and fourth innings, before roughing up three Texas City pitchers in the fifth, plating five players for an 8-1 lead.

Offensively, League City could have scored in the teens had it taken advantage of all its opportunities. Texas City helped League City's cause with such stuff as a bases-loaded walk to make it 6-1 and one of those wild pitches that plated the seventh run. "I just went up there looking for a hit because I knew we had runners on and they were in scoring position. My coach, he told me don't try to hit a home run, just try to make good contact and eventually it'll happen. I just concentrated and was waiting for my pitch and then it came so I was very happy about that," Stephens said."It was a fastball inside. Normally, what we notice, the first two pitches are fastball. It was the second pitch.
