men’s basketball’s Friday media availability:The Bears are coming off back-to-back losses in the Sunflower State, at then-No. 5 Kansas and No. 14 Kansas State. In those downfalls, Baylor gave up a combined 29 fast break points, with 15 of them coming versus the Wildcats while the other 14 were against the Jayhawks.
“We’ve got to do a good job matching up, getting back. And if you handle the transition part, now you’ve got to guard your man and you’ve got to keep them out of the paint. We’ve given up too many buckets at the rim. That’s on-ball defense and then that’s your rotation.” One of those forwards, Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua, said it all starts with “communication” on the backend to help make sure the defense doesn’t fall apart. Tchamwa Tchatchoua, who goes by the nickname “Everyday Jon,” is one of the more energized and vocal leaders when on the hardwood.
“Of course, we’re trying to get revenge,” Cryer said. “I don’t know what has to happen for us to win the conference. I wouldn’t say it’s more of stopping them from winning the conference because at the end of the day we only care about us winning the conference. If it’s not us, it’s doesn’t matter who it is who wins. We’re just taking it one game at a time.
“We’ve got to protect our home court, we’ve got to give our crowd a lot to get involved with and cheer about,” Drew said. “I know it was a big difference when we went to Texas this year. Their new facility was a huge difference for them. That’s why they’ve been so much better at home. Hopefully tomorrow we have a great turnout, and hopefully we play well to give our crowd a lot of opportunity to interject and motivate and affect the game.
