According to PropertyShark's report, the 94027 ZIP code in the town of Atherton has a median home sale price of $7.9 million, more than 20 times higher than the national median. This is about a 6% year-over-year increase from the city's median sale price of $7,475,000 last year.
California reigns supreme when it comes to expensive ZIP codes, claiming seven of the report's top 10 spots nationwide. Five are in Southern California — Beverly Hills at No. 5, Santa Monica at No. 7, Santa Barbara at No. 8, Newport Beach at No. 9 and Rancho Santa Fe at No. 10 — but the Bay Area took the state's top two spots, with Atherton in first and Ross in Marin County at No. 3.
With 46 of the report's 100 priciest ZIP codes, the Bay Area at large was once again listed as the most expensive metro area in the country. The Los Angeles metro area came in second, with 31 of the report's top ZIP codes coming from LA and Orange counties. In third place was the New York metro area; the town of Sagaponack on Long Island has the second most expensive ZIP code behind Atherton.
As far as priciest ZIP codes in the pricey Bay Area: Santa Clara County led the way this year, followed by the counties of San Mateo, Marin, Contra Costa, San Francisco and Alameda.
