GEORGE TOWN: The extensive flooding in certain areas in Batu Maung is because a six-metre-wide ditch beside a riverbank was closed, leaving only a one-metre-wide for water to flow into the drain, says MCA.
It said the state must face up to the fact as the area was flooded due to the closure of the ditch for flood mitigation works.
"There must be a long-term flood mitigation plan for Batu Maung as the ongoing Sungai Nipah flood mitigation project was the primary reason for the flash floods," said Saw in a statement on Sunday .
