Tommy Lee Jones' Two-Face seeming acts quite out of character in one Batman Forever scene, but it might have a rather simple explanation.

One often-criticized Two-Face moment in Batman Forever may have a surprisingly simple explanation. Joel Schumacher’s Batman movies are beloved by some and derided by others for their intentionally campy depictions of the Batman mythos, but they did, ultimately, understand their characters and source material quite well. A particular moment that seemingly contradicts Two-Face’s obsession with chance might actually be fully in-character for the villainous former DA.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT When Two-Face and Riddler attack Wayne Manor in Batman Forever, the former is shown repeatedly flipping his coin while the latter destroys the Batcave and his henchmen battle Bruce Wayne and Chase Meridian. Two-Face’s coin eventually lands on its “bad” side, prompting him to shoot Wayne. What stands about this is the fact that he flips the coin so many times; it goes against his own rules for him to force the outcome he wants.

1 Explanation Fixes Batman Forever's Two-Face Problem In Batman Forever, The Riddler tells Two-Face specifically not to kill anyone in Wayne Manor and to capture his enemies only. The two villains have butted heads throughout the film, so Two-Face disobeying The Riddler is not surprising and neither is his choice to leave the lives of Bruce Wayne and the others to chance.

Notably, Wayne Manor only contained three of Two-Face’s enemies in the scene: Alfred, Chase Meridian, and Bruce Wayne. While Two-Face appears to be acting uncharacteristically in this moment, he might have simply been flipping the coin for each of his three enemies in Wayne Manor, making his actions perfectly in-character.
