Sonic showers may allow starships to conserve water but they have their drawbacks. On Star Trek: Voyager, the acoustic inverter of Captain Kathryn Janeway's sonic shower once malfunctioned and caused her glass mirror to shatter. Malfunctioning sonic showers also occasionally plagued the eponymous space station of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
