In addition to being excited for his potential win, Batgirl directors Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah are hopeful Brendan Fraser's TheWhale Oscars buzz could save their DC movie. 'He is so, so talented. The way he played that character...'
As the star continues to become a major award candidate, Batgirl directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah hope a Brendan Fraser Oscar win could save their DC movie. Fraser was starring in the DC Universe film as Ted Carson, a disgruntled veteran who elects to take his anger out on Gotham City by transforming into the sociopathic pyromaniac better known as Firefly.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In a recent interview with Variety, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah open up about their time on Batgirl and Fraser's recent buzzy performance in The Whale. While reflecting on the possibility the star could win an Oscar for his performance, the directing duo were excited at the prospect of his winning, and somewhat jokingly hoped it could save their DC movie.
He is so, so talented. The way he played that character… It was one of the most memorable villains, so we’ll see. Maybe when he wins his Oscar they’ll want to show the movie.
Unfortunately for those still holding out hope the film could see the light of day, the chances for Batgirl to be saved are relatively slim solely for the financial reason that the DC movie was scrapped for a tax write-off.
Outside of Fraser's Oscars buzz for The Whale, one of the biggest keys to whether the Batgirl movie could be saved is new DC Studios heads, James Gunn and Peter Safran.
