Works Minister says MACC will keep secret the identities of those who tell all.
SIBU: Works Minister Baru Bian has called for whistleblowers to come forward in secret and spill the dirt about “Ali Baba” contracts.
Baru announced that his ministry and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission were collaborating in an effort to wipe out “Ali Baba” practices, where corrupt Bumiputera contractors received contracts and pass the work on via sub-contracts to non-Bumiputera contractors.“We need proof to act.
He also reiterated that the federal government would cancel the contracts of those found involved in “Ali Baba” activities. Baru also spoke about the Pan Borneo Highway project. Construction was 38% complete in Sarawak, and 12% in Sabah, and work was proceeding normally. He said the Cabinet had yet to decide on a proposal to change to the project to being run on a turnkey basis instead of the project-delivery basis.
