Barry Humphries, the comic actor behind Dame Edna Everage, has passed away. The iconic star was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1934.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Spender and his four children. Barry Humphries' Legacy Will Live On Humphries' comic characters were a huge part of his creative contribution to the world. In addition to Dame Edna, he also frequently played characters like the unrefined Sir Les Patterson. However, the star also had the opportunity to show off his abilities by playing a range of characters in other film and TV projects.
One of his most prominent recent roles was as part of the Finding Nemo voice cast, playing the vegetarian shark Bruce who utters the iconic line "fish are friends, not food." He also played the Great Goblin in the Peter Jackson Middle-earth outing The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in 2012.
