In a press conference today, U.S. attorney general Bill Barr called out Apple for not providing 'substantive assistance' to unlock Pensacola shooter’s iPhones by lisettevoytko
that Alshamrani tried to destroy his phones before the shooting began, citing an unnamed DOJ official, who added that made the devices of even more interest for the investigation.
Seventeen other Saudi Arabian cadets stationed at the base were found to have ties to extremist ideologies, and 15 in that group were found to have had contact with child pornography—but U.S. attorneys, after reviewing the evidence, said all 17 individuals would not be charged. As a result of the investigation, 21 Saudi Arabian cadets in total have been disenrolled from the base’s training program and are returning to the kingdom Monday. "We have asked Apple for their help in unlocking the shooter’s iPhones. So far Apple has not given us any substantive assistance. We call on Apple and other technology companies to help us find a solution so that we can better protect the lives of Americans and prevent future attacks," Barr said at the press conference.
