Bangkok's nighttime entertainment venues remain temporarily closed despite end of curfew

BANGKOK (Xinhua): Bangkok's nighttime entertainment venues remain temporarily closed despite easing restrictions and end of curfew from Monday, announced Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) spokesman Phongsakorn Kwanmuang on Sunday (June 14).

Bars, karaoke lounges and other entertainment venues throughout Bangkok remain temporarily closed for fear that such places would be otherwise crowded with people getting together for drinks, thus increasing the risk Covid-19 infections, Phongsakorn said.

Computer game arcades, internet cafes, cockfighting, fishfighting and bullfighting venues throughout the capital city also remain temporarily closed for similar reasons, according to the BMA spokesman. Meanwhile, Bangkok's restaurants may serve alcoholic beverages to customers inside but they are not allowed to do so after midnight, Phongsakorn said.

His announcement followed Friday's decision made by the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration to lift curfew and further ease restrictions as part of anti-pandemic measures, effective on Monday. - Xinhua/Asian News Network
