On January 30, Edgewell Personal Care Company announced an expansion its voluntary nationwide recall of Banana Boat Hair & Scalp Sunscreen Spray SPF 30 due to trace amounts of benzene found in its formula. One additional batch has been added to the three batches initially included in the recall.
If your Banana Boat Hair & Scalp Sunscreen Spray SPF 30 falls under batch code 20301CF, you should dispose of it immediately., “no other Banana Boat products are in the scope of this recall and may continue to be used by consumers safely and as intended.” Benzene is not an ingredient in any Banana Boat products, however, a review "showed that unexpected levels of benzene came from the propellant that sprays the product out of the can," as the FDA reports.
