ALOR SETAR: A total of 417 people from 109 families in Baling have been evacuated to two temporary relief centres following the flood disaster there.
Baling district Civil Defence Force officer Capt Rasidah Kassim said this was the number of victims at the centres in SMK Jerai and Surau An Nur as of 10pm on Tuesday .
She said a total of 78 students including 32 girls from SMK Agama Al-Khiriah initially took shelter at the school, which was also turned into a relief centre, on Monday .She added that most of the students had already left the centre with their parents or guardians. Capt Rasidah advised villagers to be alert to their surroundings and to let the authorities know immediately if their area gets flooded.As of Tuesday, nine schools in the district were affected by the floods.
