Baguio City chills at 11.8℃, Metro Manila at 21.1℃ due to surge of 'amihan'

The air temperatures in Baguio City and Metro Manila dipped to their lowest so far for the 2021-2022 northeast monsoon or “amihan” season on Saturday, Dec. 4.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said that the temperature in Baguio City dropped to 11.8 degrees Celsius at 4:50 a.m., while it fell to 21.1℃ at the Science Garden Station in Quezon City at 5:15 a.m.Meanwhile, the lowest temperature in Metro Manila was registered twice on Feb. 4, 1987, and Dec. 30, 1988, at 15.1 degrees Celsius.

Other PAGASA monitoring stations that recorded low temperatures on Saturday morning were Basco, Batanes ; Casiguran, Aurora ; Malaybalay, Bukidnon ; Tanay, Rizal ; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro ; Abucay, Bataan ; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan ; and Clark, Pampanga PAGASA attributed the cold weather to the surge of amihan. The peak of amihan is expected to occur from January to February.
