Morena Ramoreboli rang the changes after the semi-final loss to Zambia, as Kaizer Chiefs starlet Puso Dithejane, Siyabonga Gumede, Genino Palace and Shadrack Kobedi were handed their first starts of the competition.
Bafana had been slow off the mark in previous encounters and on two occasions found themselves needing to come from behind to secure the victory, but clear-cut chances were hard to come by in the early stages of the first half. Bafana's top scorer at the tournament Tshegofatso Mabasa and Rowen Human had a couple efforts at goal themselves, but none were able to find a way past Zambian goalkeeper Brighton Munthali.
Lyle Lakay and Thembela Sikhakhane were also introduced by Ramoreboli early in the second stanza, while Shaune Mogaila also replaced Katlego Mohamme on the hour mark as they pushed for the opening goal.
