Baby Jasper Wu was killed in Oakland gang gunbattle, DA says

The Alameda County District Attorney's Office said Thursday that three suspects were arrested in the shooting death of 23-month old Jasper Wu, who was struck by a stray bullet on an Oakland freeway in November 2021.

DA Nancy O’Malley said in a press conference that Trevor Green, Ivory Bivins and Johnny Jackson face multiple charges including murder, shooting at an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm by a felon. Bivins and Green also face charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and criminal street gang conspiracy. A fourth suspect, Keison Lee, died in a shooting unrelated to the November 2021 incident, O’Malley said.

“How could this horrific tragedy happen?” O’Malley said. “It happened because two rivaling gangs were having a rolling gunbattle on Highway 880 going northbound, across the freeway, at 2 p.m.” Wu was killed just after 2 p.m. on Nov. 6, 2021, while his mother was driving and he was asleep in the back seat of his family car, a Lexus sedan. Other family members were also in the car, which was traveling south on Interstate 880.
