JCPenney said it will be closed on the holiday for the third year in a row “so customers and associates can enjoy Thanksgiving with their families without missing out on the savings.”Prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic the tide had begun to turn on opening for shopping on Thanksgiving. Retailers were attempting to get a jump on the traditional start of the holiday shopping season on Black Friday.
However, during the pandemic, retailers began closing on the holiday to limit crowds in the store and limit the spread of the virus. Retailers boosted their online holiday shopping and began offering Black Friday deals earlier.
