PETALING JAYA: The United Nations (UN) has a roadmap ready for global responses through UN agreements to help contain the Australian bushfires, says Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
He pointed out that the UN had painstakingly crafted roadmaps for global responses on climate change disasters such as bushfires.
Australia is now battling one of its worst bushfires, which has burnt an estimated 10.7 million hectares, destroyed 5,900 buildings and killed 28 people. “The world is bearing witness to the devastating effects of climate change as seen in what is happening not only in Australia but other regions as well.
He listed climate change catastrophes such as outbreaks of unseasonal floods and raging wildfires around the world, along with melting polar ice caps and rising sea levels.“We need to prove our commitment, individually and collectively, to commit to a clear implementation roadmap for sustainable policies we have painstakingly crafted through the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, ” said Azmin.
