Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Tuesday he is standing firm against the U.S. over its continued prosecution of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

Fox Nation host Piers Morgan talks to Julian Assange's brother and father about this role in leaking classified military documents.

The Australian journalist has been held at London’s high-security Belmarsh Prison since he was removed from the Ecuadorian Embassy on April 11, 2019, for breaching jail conditions. He had sought asylum at the embassy in London to avoid extradition to Sweden over allegations he raped two women due to Sweden failing to ensure it would protect him from a U.S. extradition. The investigations into the sexual assault allegations were eventually dropped.

Assange's prosecution is in connection with the publication of cables detailing war crimes committed by the U.S. government in the Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, detention camp, Iraq and Afghanistan. The materials also expose instances of the CIA engaging in torture and rendition. "We remain very firm in our view and our representations to the American government, and we will continue to do so," Albanese said.

Julian Assange could face up to 175 years in an American maximum security prison if he is extradited to the U.S. On Capitol Hill, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., led a letter to the Justice Department earlier this year demanding the charges against Assange be dropped.
