Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina has knocked world No. 1 Iga Swiatek out of the Australian Open.
Jelena Ostapenko has defeated young emerging star Coco Gauff in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 on Margaret Court Arena.It was a close contest with many games going point for point, but Ostapenko’s aggressive playing style won out in the end.She added she came to: “Try my best and fight for every point”.Ostapenko, who won the French Open title in 2017, is now through to the quarter-finals.Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz and United States’ Sebastian Korda have stepped out on Rod Laver Arena.
Meanwhile, Hurkacz is bidding to become the first Polish male player to reach the quarterfinals at the Australian Open. If he’s successful, it will also be the second time he’s progressed before the fourth round in a grand slam.Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina has admitted she needs to let her emotions show some more after she knocked out women’s top seed Iga Swiatek today.She will play the winner of Gauff and Ostapenko in the quarter-finals with those two on court at present.
