Liberal Senator Claire Chandler says the Australian government needs to be doing “more to take a very strong stand against the regime in Iran”.
Ms Chandler’s comments come after a young Iranian couple had been sentenced for more than ten years after Haghighi was dancing without a head scarf with her fiancé Amir Mohammad Ahmadi, in front of the Azadi tower.
“That’s why this week the Senate committee that I chair, the Foreign Affairs, Defence, and Trade References Committee, issued a report outlining a series of actions,” she told Sky News host James Morrow. “That we think the Australian government needs to take so that it can take a strong stance against Iran.”
