Ukraine’s Ambassador praised the Australian coal his war-torn country received last year, as calls mount for more to provide energy security as the Russian invasion continues.

Vasyl Myroshnychenko praised Australia’s efforts with supplying coal last year, noting it takes months for the shipments to arrive., which was delivered via rail from Poland.

In an interview with Sky News Australia, Mr Myroshnychenko said that energy security is necessary, given Russia has seized important infrastructure such as nuclear power plants. “That coal that was provided by Australia last year was very helpful. It helped us go through the winter.” “We need to invest into the resilience of that infrastructure to be able to fend of the attacks,” he said.“This is something Ukraine needs to be able to defend itself.”

But on March 6, Mr Watts sent a rejection letter following the three requests, saying the government was “not in a position to provide direct funding”.
