Australia is ready to walk on free trade negotiations with the European Union after two days of talks reached an impasse.

The Prime Minister, Trade Minister Don Farrell and several other stakeholder groups are in Brussels to hash out the last details of the free trade agreement between the European Union and Australia, which has been in talks for years.

“It’s certainly something we’ve been working on with this government and the negotiators have been working on for years,” he told Sky News Australia. Negotiations on the European side are also tinged with European protectionism, argues Don Farrell, thanks to their insistence on removing geographical indications from Australian products. While New Zealand signed a free trade agreement with the EU on Sunday, the National Farmers’ Federation’s Mr Mahar cautioned that he wouldn’t accept a similar deal for Australia.

A spokesperson for the European Commission told SkyNews.com.au there were still “many issues outstanding” in negotiations.
